What it is

Harvest Simulator gives you a field, a combine and a grain store. You drive up and down, the crop goes into the hopper, the hopper goes into the store and the store turns into money.

There is no failure state and no opponent. The loop is harvest, sell, upgrade, and the upgrades are the only thing that changes the shape of the work.

How it plays

A field takes a few minutes with the starting machine and considerably less once you have widened the header. Money buys a bigger hopper, a faster engine, extra fields and eventually a second vehicle.

Because nothing is timed, it suits an evening where you want progress without pressure — but it is equally happy being left after one field.

Controls

Drive with the arrow keys or WASD on a computer; the mouse handles the shop and the sell button.

On touch devices an on-screen pad replaces the keyboard. The shop is the same.

What to do first

• Upgrade the hopper before the engine. Fewer trips to the store beats a faster trip to the store.
• Harvest in long straight runs along the field rather than in patches; the turns are what cost you time.
• Buy the second field only once the first one is cleared in a single hopper load.

Where it trips people up

• It is easy to drive with a full hopper and collect nothing; the intake stops when there is no room.
• The most expensive machine is not always the best next purchase — width matters more than speed on small fields.
